CHAIRMAN'S MESSAGE
International events of the last few years have moved Geothermal from the sidelines of the energy debate to the forefront. To a very large extent, Geothermal can address the issue of fossil fuel replacement. Politicians all over the world have accepted this opportunity. Instead of a specialized term for experts, Geothermal has become a common term in political discussions. New legislative actions, policy documents and strategic analyses are constantly being prepared and adopted. May 2007 will be a good time to review the developments at all levels, including policy, markets, industry, technology, research and education.
I agreed to be the Chairman of the 4th World Geothermal Congress on the understanding that I will be given the freedom to shape the Conference in such a way as to promote genuine debate in the above areas, in particular in terms of where we have been successful and where we have failed as a Community. I will especially endeavor to highlight political debate, industrial leadership and market topics during the Conference. For this reason I recommended the Conference theme to be “Geothermal : "The Energy to Change The World"
In the above process, and in addition to the traditional Organizing and Steering Committee, I will be assisted by a Chairman’s Advisory Group consisting of Indonesian geothermal stakeholders from the Indonesian Geothermal Association, Government, Parliament, University, geothermal industry, as well as individuals who are highly recognized experts in their respective fields.
In addition to the Conference there will be an Exhibition, and the organizing team and I, under the guidance of Mr. Simon F Sembiring from the Chairman’s Advisory Group, will endeavour to make the co-current exhibition the most successful ever of the World Geothermal Congress. As plans progress, I will be contacting you again to let you know how this event is progressing that I hope will set a new standard in this Conference. I look forward to seeing you in April 2010 in Bali, Indonesia, this exciting and fascinating place where the traditional cultural dances are world famous as well as its hospitable people and the unique culture which is embodied in the love of music, arts and dance.
I am convinced that on
our departure from Bali we will all feel significantly enriched by
listening to your contributions. |
